When would I replay a .log file?

If you're entering data, forget to click "save", and GnuCash Crashes.
That's pretty much the ONLY time you should replay a log.

What do you mean by "enter the same amount in both lines"?  In the
normal register gnucash will auto-compute the outstanding balance and put
that in the correct column of the blank split.  But this can't happen
in an SX because you're entering a formula, not amounts.
