In the long run, maintaining C is easier.  Also, the new check layout
format is MUCH easier for the layman to control, and that alone is
worth the change.  For the one person who's comfortable editing scheme
(you) we've got a dozen people who can create custom check formats.

The only thing that isn't configurable right now is the number-to-words
algorithm, but in general that's not something that the average person
needs to even think about.  All they care about is where it gets printed
on the page.
