Are you using the restricted driver, or the open source one? Whichever
one you're using, you might try the other. I just did a couple of
Google searches for "ATI Xpress 200M Ubuntu" and turned up some
information for getting Compiz working, but one of the posts said
there's some recent work on getting the open source driver updated.
But in the meantime, if you follow some of the tips in the Ubuntu
forums, maybe the performance will improve even if you don't care to
activate the special effects.
